The MaxiScan code reader supports all OBD2 protocols, including the newly released Controller Area Network (CAN) protocol. Though it is small, it is able to retrieve same information as large expensive scanners. This code reader reviews the emission readiness status of OBD monitors and determines the malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) status as well as turns off check engine light. It comes with free CD software with over 7000 DTC definitions and is powered via detachable OBD2 cable.

Needed something to interface with Torque and our nee JCW Mini Cooper (since it doesn't have a coolant temperature dial). Does the trick and then some. We rally and occasional track day and I can easily see using this a lot. The readings do lag, but can tolerate that for the price. Also I can plug this into the other vehicles for diagnostics. Win-Win

This worked great with my Droid X phone. It did not mate yet with my Nook HD + tablet, but that may not be the scan tool's fault. Works great, but i may look for a smaller one if I wished for it to be installed all the time (sticks out a bit) The scan tool is very fast and it really shows off what a great app Torque for Windows is (especially for only $4.99). If you are having a fault light you want to check out or want to get real time data this works fine. Highly recommended.
